How much does reformer Pilates cost in London?

Drop-in, class pack or membership — what each one costs, why the range is so wide, and where the real price sits once you commit.

In London, a single reformer Pilates class costs roughly £30 to £45. But almost nobody who trains regularly pays that, because the single class is the most expensive way to buy it. What you actually pay comes down to how you buy — drop-in, class pack, or membership — and the gap between the top rate and the bottom is wide.

The single drop-in: £30 to £45

The drop-in is the full price. One class, no commitment, pay as you go. Across London it runs about £30 to £45 depending on the studio and the postcode. It's the number people quote when they say reformer Pilates is expensive, and bought one class at a time, they're right.

But the drop-in isn't really the price of reformer Pilates. It's the price of committing to nothing. If you buy your classes one at a time, you'll always pay the top rate. Most regulars don't.

Class packs: cheaper per class, paid up front

Buy a block of classes in one go — a five, ten, or twenty-class pack — and the per-class rate falls below the drop-in. In London, packs commonly work out somewhere around £25 to £38 a class, with the bigger the block, the lower the rate. The trade-off is that you pay up front and packs usually come with an expiry date, so they suit someone who knows they'll train but not on a fixed weekly rhythm.

Memberships: the lowest per-class rate

A membership is a set monthly fee for a set number of classes, or for unlimited access. It's the cheapest way to train regularly, and it's where the per-class cost drops furthest. In London, unlimited memberships commonly sit somewhere around £165 to £245 a month; work that out per class once you're going two or three times a week and it lands well below the drop-in.

Ours run from £19.75 a class on the smallest plan down to £12.95 on the largest — under half the price of our £30 drop-in, and below the bottom of the typical London range. (Exact current prices live on /buy — check there before you decide.) The maths only works if you actually go, which is the whole point of a membership: it prices regular training properly and prices occasional training badly.

Why the range is so wide

Two studios can both call it reformer Pilates and charge very different amounts for it. Some of that is location — a Zone 1 postcode carries higher rent than an outer-London one, and it shows up in the price. But most of the spread comes from what's actually in the room.

A reformer class is capped at the number of machines, so you're in a room of a dozen or so with an instructor watching and correcting your form, not lost in a hall of forty. That small class, with an instructor on you the whole time, is most of the cost. Add the machine itself — a reformer is specialist equipment, not a mat you could roll out at home — and you're paying for something structurally more expensive to run than open-floor group fitness. The price reflects the instruction and the equipment, not a markup for the word "Pilates".

What you get at Reformer LDN

At our studios in Hoxton and Hackney Central, East London, the work is Strength Pilates on the Powerformer™ — a reformer built to carry real load and let you add to it as you get stronger. Classes run in three tiers: Foundation, Elevate, and Power. You buy in the same three ways as anywhere — drop-in, class pack, or membership — and one set of prices covers both studios. Foundation is for all levels and paced for technique, so a first month isn't wasted working out where to stand.

The cheapest way to start

You don't have to commit a penny beyond a first block to find out what it costs you in practice. The Power Intro works out at £15 a class — cheaper than most single drop-ins in the city, and enough to see where reformer Pilates would sit in your week and your budget before you decide how to buy.
